The Ship MuseumBuilt between 1965 and 1979, the spaceship musium of Fiumicino hosts the ruins of one small "fleet" of old roman ships, composed by four merchant ships an one fishing ship and two fragments of other ships. VISIT AT THE MUSEUM Bigger boats are divided in "onerarie minor" and "major onerarie". The onerarie minore the I which is the first one on the left was found without elements of equipment so its very hard to determine the period in which this boat was used. The onerarie minore II was used during the III and the beginning of the IV century AD. The hull is well preserved and allow as to observe numerous details related to the system of the axis connection. From the hull was found a bronze statue venus and some skylights and one of them was African having the christian simbol of the chrismon, a wooden compass and some remains of edible vegetables. The onerarie magiore the I was used in the IV century AD. In the inside of the boat was found an inscription having the name TRITUTA ( saved three times). Underneath the sturn was found a fragment containing some traces of original putty and some probable decorations in bronze. In the ship museum of Fiumicino are also exposed some tomb stones fines coming from the ostia area. |
