Traian PortThe port of Traian was built from the end of the first Century A.d. in order to create a new portual dock for Rome.The construccion was started by Traianu and was completed in 112 or 113 a.d. the structure of the port had an exhagonal dock and a canal giving access to the sea with moles and a lighthouse, a dockyard and a canal that were connecting with the " Fossa Traiana" ( "Traian Pit") and everything was surrounded by other buildings. THE TRAIAN PORT DURING THE CENTURIES The Traian Port during the century was exposed to a natural shelving. A wall painting of 1582, currently present at the Vatican Museums, shows the dock of Claudius already drained, while in the Traian's exhagonal, especially in the dockyard and the connecting canals shows that there is still water. Nowadays the area od the Traian Port is in a re-enabling fase in order to create an archeological Park open to the publc. |
